Hyatt Centric Midtown Atlanta has just opened a new restaurant, Author’s Den, with a grand opening on Friday, September 20, 2024. Featuring Southern cuisine with a unique global twist, Author’s Den draws inspiration from Midtown Atlanta’s rich cultural history and vibrant community.

A Nod to Midtown’s Artistic Legacy

Author’s Den takes its name from its prime location across from the Margaret Mitchell House, where the famed Gone with the Wind was written, and is deeply rooted in the artistic and cultural movements that defined Midtown in the 1970s. The restaurant also honors Boyd Lewis, a celebrated photojournalist and civil rights activist who lived in the area. With its focus on preserving and promoting Midtown’s cultural heritage, Author’s Den is dedicated to supporting local farmers, artists, and businesses—mirroring the partnerships that once transformed the neighborhood.

A Fresh Look and Inspired Menu

Following a comprehensive renovation, Author’s Den offers a variety of dining options, and it includes a bevy of tasty cocktails. The Blood Orange Margarita we tried was both bright and citrusy as well as slightly smokey. And the Welcome to Georgia Cocktail is perfect for those who love whiskey but want someting more on the sweet side. Visitors will also find bookshelves stocked by local bookstores, further highlighting its connection to the community’s creative spirit.

Other favorites include the Atlanta Sour, Tropics in the Park, and the Midtown Sunset—each one offering a fresh, creative twist on classic cocktails.

Executive Chef Celso Pinto has curated a menu that merges Southern comfort food with international influences, ensuring that every dish is unique and locally sourced. Diners can enjoy small plates like Crispy Pork Belly and Brazilian Tapioca Cheese Fritters, or share local delicacies such as Green Tomato Toast with Pimento Cheese and Slow-Cooked Smoked Brisket Sliders. Main course options include classics like Steak & Frites and a Crab Cake Sandwich, as well as more exotic fare like Tandoori Spiced Grilled Chicken and Gnocchi with Four Cheese Sauce.
