3 Tampa Parents Respond to School Board's Vote on Transgender Student Bathroom Restrictions

After an accusation of violating a transgender student's rights, the Florida Board of Education voted that it is legal to separate school bathrooms by biological sex. I interviewed three Tampa parents to get their thoughts on this divisive issue.

The Issue: Transgender Student Bathroom Rights

Should transgender students be able to use the bathroom of their choice? In short, the answer is no.

General Counsel Andrew King stated, "It’s not illegal for schools to separate bathrooms by biological sex in order to protect the privacy and safety of Florida students."

Three Tampa Parents Speak Up

I interviewed three Tampa parents to see what they thought of the new Florida School Board decision on this heated issue. Here's what they said:

Rory stated, "He [Andrew King] is right. It's a safety concern. Whether they want to act fruity or not, boys shouldn't be allowed in the girl's bathroom. I'd be pissed off if my daughter's school allowed this. That's not safe."

Jodie stated, "The whole system's muddled, isn't it? They're so worried about trans students using the toilet that makes them feel most comfortable and they should be more concerned about the mental health of our children."

Heidi stated, "It's ridiculous they had to vote on it to begin with. How can a ten-year-old identify as the wrong gender? They can't. It's the liberal parents. It's common sense that the bathrooms are separate."
