Man Pleads Guilty to Striking Biker With Vehicle in Deadly Hit-And-Run in Cherokee
Cherokee, Iowa – A man accused of being involved in a fatal hit-and-run incident in Cherokee has pleaded guilty. According to court documents, 30-year-old Casey Herwig has pleaded guilty to one count of Knowingly Leaving The Scene of an Accident Resulting in Death, which is a class D felony. Herwig faces a maximum of ten years in prison, along with a fine between one thousand and ten thousand dollars.
Bishop Garrigan Baseball Season Ends in Substate Game
There will be no trip to the class 1A state tournament this year for the Bishop Garrigan baseball team, as the #9 ranked Golden Bears season came to an end in the class 1A – substate 3 championship game with a 10-3 loss to #3 ranked Newman Catholic in Forest City.
Central Park Splash Pad Nearing Completion
–The Central Park Splash Pad is nearing completion, as officials with the City of Algona say they plan to open the new feature yet this summer. According to a news release, exactly when the splash pad will open has not been determined, as some work still needs to be completed. Mechanical work inside the newly renovated shelter house and a state inspection of the new amenities at Central Park need to be finished before it can be opened to the public.

The circus is coming to Forest City
The Culpepper and Merri-weather Circus is coming to Forest City, Thursday, Aug. 1, at Heritage Park of North Iowa with shows at 5 and 7:30 p.m. The circus has been providing quality, local, family entertainment for 38 years. This authentic one-ring, big top circus has been featured on television. They are very excited to bring you their brand new performance featuring big cats presented by Trey Key, aerialist extraordinaire Simone on the trapeze, 10th generation Loyal bareback horse riders, the Perez daredevil duo on the tight rope and wheel of destiny, Elizabeth Ayala’s incredible foot juggling and hair hang, and everyone’s favorite circus clown, Leo Acton.

This is the first time Braun has been honored with “The Rebby” award for the GPAC. A vote of the league’s sports information directors determined the selection.
