NIU football set to clash with Western Illinois in 2024 opener
DeKALB – After an offseason of movements and preparation, college football returns to DeKalb this weekend as NIU plays host to an in-state foe to kick off the 2024 campaign. NIU and Western Illinois University will battle Saturday at Huskie Stadium for the teams’ first meeting since NIU head football coach Thomas Hammock took the reins in 2019.

The Bombers made a trip to Sycamore High School last night, and the Varsity team came home with another victory! The final score was 4-1 Bombers. In the 12th minute, senior Adam Schwab had a beautiful assist to senior Bennett Tekavec who then passed to junior Rowdy Scheer for the tap in giving St. Xavier the 1st goal of the night. The rally continued when an own goal occurred with another assist from Bennett Tekavec.

A kindergarten school in Illinois lost a child on his first day, but his mother tracked him down through Find My and an AirTag she'd given him. It's not clear whether the child knew about the AirTag, although when he's older you can bet he'll figure out how to leave it where his mother thinks he should be. ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - Rockford East opened up the floodgates to start week one with Zy’air Lee rushing for three touchdowns in the E-Rabs 32-20 victory over Jefferson. Jefferson got on the board first, scoring on their second drive of the game on a four-yard rush from Lashawn Gathright. However, the E-Rabs answered right back in the second quarter with Lee’s first touchdown of the game. The two NIC-10 rivals kept this game close with some big-time runs down the stretch.
New casino’s marquee salutes Cheap Trick’s Nielsen
A new Rockford landmark debuted last week as a 62-foot, 10-inch, 14,000-pound checkered guitar marquee was lit up outside the Hard Rock Casino. The one-of-a-kind display arrived at the casino Aug. 14 from the Gable Co. in Baltimore and pays tribute to Rick Nielsen, a Rockford native and guitarist of the rock band Cheap Trick.
