The first phase of a crucial journey to reduce the severity and frequency of flooding in the town of Mamaroneck is underway. During a special meeting Tuesday night, people living in Mamaroneck voiced their questions and concerns over the results of a new study aimed at tackling the town's flood problems. "Flooding is one the most important or most pressing problems in the community," says Mamaroneck Town Supervisor Jaine Elkind Eney. Jaine Elkind Eney says the town enlisted the help of an engineering firm to look into how to reduce the severity and frequency of flooding. Those results came back with ideas like updated piping, upgrades to infrastructure and creating new drainage options. It also narrowed down more than a dozen flood prone zones in the town. "I don't think at this point there are quick fixes, I'm not sure the flooding is going to go away but at least we can reduce the severity and frequency," says Elkind Eney. As for what's next, town leaders tell News 12 they are going to look into which of these projects are feasible and how they would pay for them. "
