MANASQUAN, NJ - In honor of our independence, we are celebrating an organization that has been integral to the fabric of the United States for 114 years - the Boy Scouts of America, specifically the Eagle Scouts. At this week’s Manasquan Council meeting, the governing body and Senior Vice Commander of the VFW Post 1838, Glenn Miller, honored four Eagle Scouts: William Minervini, Lucas Nordell, Ryan Rose, and Alexander Schmieder.
To become an Eagle Scout, a scout must fulfill several requirements, demonstrating leadership, service, and outdoor skills. These requirements ensure that the scout has a well-rounded experience, encompassing leadership, community service, and personal development. The detailed breakdown of the requirements includes: 1) Be active in the Troop 2) Live by the Scout Oath and Law 3) Earn 21 Merit Badges 4) Serve in a Position of Responsibility 5) Plan, Develop, and Lead a Service Project 6) Take Part in a Scoutmaster Conference 7) Successfully Complete an Eagle Scout Board of Review 8) Submit an Eagle Scout Rank Application 9) Meet the Age Requirement of 18
The governing body honored each scout, and were given the chance to briefly explain their project.
William Minervini resurfaced and repainted the playground at SeaWatch, which was heavily rusted. Mayor Mangan commented, "This helps save and extend the playground's life at SeaWatch until it can eventually be replaced."
Lucas Nordell helped St. Dennis Church by building wooden collection baskets, contributing to the church's functionality and aesthetic.
Ryan Rose rebuilt a food pantry, providing essential services to the community and ensuring that those in need have access to food.
Alexander Schmieder worked at VFW Post 1838, where he built seven permanent "anchors" for the event flags used in many events at Post 1838.
