Plans unveiled for Packer Ellis Tennis Courts
WINCHESTER - Thanks to funding from fall Town Meeting last year, the town hired engineering firm VHB and Chris Huntress from Huntress Sports to put together a design plan for the Packer Ellis Tennis Courts on Palmer Street in Winchester (near Wedge Pond). Town Manager Beth Rudolph said the next steps involve more design.

Man Throws Beer on Woman, Starts Huge Brawl at Dodgers/Red Sox Game
A scuffle ensued between fans during Sunday night’s Dodgers vs. Red Sox game. It occurred after a man allegedly poured his beer on a woman. Footage from onlookers showcased two couples squaring off. It occurred in what is believed to be the lower bowl area of the stadium, along the third baseline.
Karen Read in court as judge schedules January retrial in Boston police officer's death
BOSTON (AP) — Karen Read made a brief court appearance on Monday to set dates going forward for the high-profile murder case against her involving her Boston police officer boyfriend that ended in a mistrial earlier this month. Read is accused of ramming into John O’Keefe with her SUV and leaving him for dead in a snowstorm in January 2022. Her two-month trial ended when jurors declared they were hopelessly deadlocked and a judge declared a mistrial on the fifth day of deliberations. The judge will hear oral arguments on a defense motion to dismiss two of the three charges against her on Aug. 9, and a retrial was scheduled for Jan. 27. The court hearing lasted just a few minutes. A boisterous crowd of several dozen, many dressed in pink and carrying signs claiming Read is innocent, greeted her with cheers as she arrived at court. A smaller group of about 20 people, dressed in blue, came out in support of O’Keefe.

The deadline for applying for appointment to fill a six-plus-month seat on the Bedford Planning Board is 1 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 9. The vacancy results from the resignation of Jacinda Barbehenn, who is moving out of town. Under the town bylaws, the remaining members of the board, in a joint meeting with the Select Board, interview applicants and name a replacement to serve until the next town election, March 8, 2025. The remaining year will be on the local ballot.
