County Animal Services Seeks Adopters, Fosters To Alleviate Overcrowded Shelter
CCAS partnering with Bissell Pet Foundation to provide free adoptions of all animals during the month of July as shelter reaches capacity. Martinez, CA – In partnership with the Bissell Pet Foundation, all animals at Contra Costa Animal Services (CCAS) will be free to adopt during the month of July in an effort to clear kennel space with the county shelter reaching capacity. CCAS is also seeking qualified foster homes – specifically those that can accommodate large dog breeds – to help alleviate the current shelter population.

Driver involved in Bay Bridge crash jumps off span into San Francisco Bay
A person involved in a crash on the Bay Bridge Thursday afternoon jumped into the bay after running from the crash scene and was eventually rescued by the Coast Guard, authorities said.A spokesperson for the California Highway Patrol told CBS News Bay Area said dispatchers were alerted at about 2:17 p.m. about a crash involving two vehicles heading east on the eastern span of the bridge.Spokesperson Mark Andrews said one of the vehicles rolled over in the collision and the male driver of that vehicle climbed out and began running east on the north shoulder just east of the suspension portion of the span east of Treasure Island.The person then jumped over the railing and into the water and was observed swimming, Andrews said. The Coast Guard was dispatched and the person was rescued. His condition was not immediately known.The second driver involved in the crash was not hurt and there were no other passengers in either car, Andrews said. The circumstances surrounding the crash were not immediately known.The crash temporarily blocked the two left lanes while the other three lanes remained open.

City Council discusses funding, appointments, and contract confirmations
At its meeting on July 8, the city council provided guidance on allocating Community Development Block Grant funding, appointed a new planning commissioner, and confirmed a contract with the Sherwood Valley Band of Pomo Indians for the tribal monitoring of the raw water line replacement project. An Alameda County man has been sentenced to federal prison after being convicted of selling counterfeit electronics to the Department of Defense that were intended to be used in military equipment, including a nuclear submarine, prosecutors said Thursday.According to Northern District of California U.S. Attorney Ismael Ramsey's office, 63-year-old Steve H.S. Kim was sentenced to three years and six months in prison. Sea Ranch Community to go Through Evacuation Exercise on Sunday
Sea Ranch will practice an evacuation exercise this weekend. It will take place Sunday from 11 AM to 1:30 PM where participants will evacuate to either the Knipp-Stengel Barn or the Wild Iris area. Those who register for the test at SoCoTest.org will receive the alert at the times designated for their section. Hi-lo sirens will be audible throughout the exercise areas to alert residents to evacuate at that time. At the evacuation meeting location, there will be emergency partners providing information on how to prepare homes, families and pets in the event of a real emergency. Residents who participated in the evacuation exercise will be invited to take a survey to help the exercise coordinators learn what worked and identify areas for improvement for future exercises.
