‘Equity, equality and parity': Illinois' road to reparations explained
In early 2022, Illinois became the second of three U.S. states to establish a commission to provide reparations for African American descendants of slavery. Through subsequent board meetings, public hearings and oversight from Gov. J.B. Pritzker, the goals of the group, titled Illinois' African Descent-Citizens Reparations Commission (ADCRC), are starting to take shape.

EOLIA, Mo. — A man shot and killed two people that were in the man's home Saturday morning, the sheriff said. Deputies in Pike County, Missouri, were called to a home on Collage Circle Drive in Eolia, Missouri, just after midnight. The 911 call said someone had been shot.
WIU Union President Responds to Announcement of Future Layoffs
“This new administration needs to strengthen and guide the university forward instead of gutting the quality of education.”. during the Western Illinois University (WIU) Faculty Senate meeting, Interim President Kristi Mindrup announced that the university intends to layoff an undetermined number of contingent and tenure/tenure track faculty and academic support professionals. Details will not be available until after a scheduled emergency Board of Trustees meeting on August 6. The layoffs will be in addition to the 35 contingent faculty who were laid off in June.
Calverton Park Police to dissolve into Florissant
ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – It has been confirmed that the Calverton Park Police Department will be dissolving. According to the mayor of Calverton Park, the city does not have enough revenue to support its police department. Officers will be contracted to the City of Florissant. The switchover will occur next week, on Aug. 1.
Northwest district to pay $500,000 to fix flash flooding damage
Northwest R-1 School District officials and staff members are scrambling to repair flash flooding damage before school starts next month. The Northwest Board of Education approved a transfer of $500,000 from the district’s operational funds to the district’s capital improvements funds to pay for the repairs and renovations not covered by the district’s insurance carrier.
