MANDAN, ND ( KXNET ) — Clouds might’ve cluttered the skies on Main Street, but faces were beaming at Dykshoorn Park on Thursday.

This week marks the 51st annual Art in the Park in Mandan, an art vendor show where local and regional artists connect with people from all across the country.

“It’s just such a fun event for the Fourth of July,” said Art in the Park attendee Madisyn Hernandez.

Kicking off on Wednesday, this year’s Art in the Park was a two-day event bringing in more than 150 artisans.

Following the Rodeo Days and Independence Day Parade, Art in the Park has been a keystone of Mandan’s tourism for close to half a century, drawing in thousands.

Food vendors lined the streets with freshly made foods, as the sweet sounds of local artists from the Mandan Bandshell welcomed in people looking to dine, shop, and enjoy.

And there’s something for everyone, with Art in the Park pushing a family-friendly experience for young and old.

Hernandez, a North Dakota native who has since moved to Denver, says that Art in the Park is the magnet that brings her home to enjoy her multi-generational household.

“It’s just, like, a good community effort and everyone’s coming together,” she said. “And it’s fun to see everyone look at all the art.”

But it’s not just about the attendees who delight in the occasion.

Art in the Park has been the lifeblood of local businesses — for many vendors throughout the region.

For example, nature photographer Daron Krueger has confessed that although his work has brought him to many different corners of the United States, out of the many shows he features in, Art in the Park is a unique gem.

“For me, it’s good,” said Krueger, “because this is how I make my living. I do about 40 shows a year in various locations around the country.”
