‘They train me to stay focused’: Inmates and “unadoptable” dogs work together for a second chance
GRANITE, Okla. (KSWO) - Dogs in the Altus Animal Shelter have been given a second chance to help themselves, and the inmates inside the Oklahoma State Reformatory. “I had second thoughts on it, at first, because of separation anxiety issues when they leave,” said a secondary dog trainer and inmate, Roy Mills. “I’d be afraid I’d get attached and have issues with that, but I haven’t so far. Initially, I decided I needed something in my life that was worth doing because sitting around watching TV isn’t it. I mean, this isn’t the life for anybody.”
