While much of the attention has been on the 2025 recruiting class, Kansas State has hosted a few 2026 visitors. Texas quarterback Grant Smith was a major visitor in the 2026 class as was Oklahoma wide receiver Mason James .

The Norman native visited K-State on June 22nd.

“The visit was really good. The coaching staff was very welcoming,” James began. “My favorite part was meetings with the coaches because I got to get a better feeling of how they run things there.”

While on the visit, the rising junior was able to be around Kansas State quarterbacks coach and co-offensive coordinator Matt Wells and wide receivers coach Matthew Middleton . Both Middleton and Wells left a strong impression on James.

“It was really good they made me feel really welcomed and kept it real with me my whole time down there,” he shared. “I felt like I left with a way stronger relationship built.”

James learned a few things about Kansas State while in The Little Apple.

“I learned how they are gonna focus big on their offense in these coming up years and how they are gonna start bringing in some big-time quarterbacks,” he noted.

The Oklahoma native has had a busy summer thus far. He has visited Ole Miss and Texas A&M as well as camping at Oklahoma in addition to his visit to K-State.

“Kansas State just really impressed me by really connecting with the coaching staff,” he pointed out.

A rising junior, James does not have a commitment timeline in mind. However, he does know what he is looking for in a school he commits to.

“I am looking for a good relationship with all the coaching staff, I want to be valued within the program and developed as a wide receiver and a person,” he concluded.
