SCHOOL NOTEBOOK | USD 383 preparing to return to classes in August

It’s still summer, but the school year approaches.

USD 383 Manattan Ogden will begin classes for elementary and middle school students with a half day on Aug. 13.

Manhattan High will have a half day for new students and freshmen on Aug. 13 to show them around the school.

“If you are a returning student to MHS, meaning if you’re not a freshman and you were here last year, you don’t need to worry about coming that first day,” Superintendent Eric Reid said. “You know where everything is. You know how to get around the building.”

Enrolling online

Online school registration opened on July 15. In-person central registration will be Friday at Manhattan High School, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“We’ve been gradually cutting that back,”Reid said. “Our second day last year was very minimal, so we’re going to try one day.”

The FIT Closet will be present at the high school on registration day providing school supplies for children.

Preparing for the semester

The school principals are back on contract. They started back on July 15, with their District Leadership Team initial meetings. Lee Elementary School’s new principal, Daniel Pray was present at Wednesday’s meeting.

“It was a short summer for them,” Reid said. “It didn’t seem like that long ago they went out and now they’re back. They had good meetings yesterday. I thought it went very well so we’re off to a good start.”

New teacher orientation is taking place on July 31 and Aug. 1 and 2. Anthony Middle School will house orientation though some activities will happen in different schools.

On July 31, they will have a breakfast, where the board of education members will have the opportunity to meet the new teachers.
