MANHATTAN ( KSNT ) – People in Manhattan stopped by City Park to pick up free household items.

This is part of the city’s annual furniture amnesty day. People donated everything from sofas, to large cabinets and tables.

While Manhattan has plenty of longtime residents, the university and nearby military post bring many people to the city temporarily. This means lots of furniture exchanges.

“We are a community that moves around a lot,” HandsOn K-State student coordinator Campbell McNorton said. “With people at Fort Riley, or college students. There’s furniture always moving in and out of apartments and in and out of homes. So, this is a really good resource for people just moving here to Manhattan or moving away from Manhattan.”

HandsOn, a K-State volunteer group helped people load the items onto their vehicles.
