JUST IN: Trump Requests That NY Criminal Trial Be Postponed

Former President Donald Trump’s legal team is seeking to delay the start of his trial in the criminal case brought against him by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg , until after the Supreme Court decides whether he’s immune from criminal prosecution for actions he took as president.

“President Donald J. Trump respectfully submits this motion (1) for an adjournment of the trial pending review of the scope of the presidential immunity doctrine in Trump v. United States, which the Supreme Court agreed to hear on February 28, 2024, and is scheduled to be argued before the Court on April 25, 2024; and (2) to preclude evidence of President Trump’s official acts at trial based on presidential immunity,” reads the start of a motion filed by his attorneys on Monday.

Trump has been charged with falsification of business records by Bragg for reimbursements he paid out to his former lawyer Michael Cohen , who had paid off Trump’s mistress S tormy Daniels .

Legal reporter Adam Klasfeld provided further explanation of the Trump team’s argument on X.

“All 34 charges relate to Trump’s reimbursements to Michael Cohen, which occurred mostly during his presidency—and were allegedly covered up with falsified invoices, ledger entries and checks,” wrote Klasfeld. “This filing seems to challenge what evidence from this time can be used against Trump.”
