Hart has cerebral palsy and is bedbound. Her apartment at the Jefferson Houses is her world. However, there are signs of years of water damage on the walls in her bedroom. In her kitchen, there is mold behind the stove.

A NYCHA spokesperson provided the following statement.

“NYCHA staff are reaching out to the resident and will assess the needed repairs and investigate any concerns. All the necessary repair work will be scheduled in coordination with the resident and completed to their satisfaction as soon as possible. Residents in need of assistance are encouraged to call the Customer Contact Center at 718-707-7771 or submit work tickets through the MyNYCHA application.”
