MANITOWOC – Plenty of events are planned at Manitowoc Public Library this week, although the library will be closed July 4 and resume regular hours at 9 a.m. July 5.

Happening this week at Manitowoc Public Library:
- Stuffed Animal Sleepover, Part 1 — 3-5 p.m. July 8. Check in your favorite fuzzy friend for an overnight stay at Hotel MPL for a Stuffed Animal Sleepover. Drop in any time between 3 and 5 p.m. to make a blanket and a nametag (while supplies last) for your cuddly companion. Come back the next day for Family Activity Night at 6:30 p.m. July 9 to pick up your pal and find out what went on during their stay.
- Family Activity Night: Stuffed Animal Sleepover, Part 2 — 6:30-7:15 p.m. July 9. If your best buddy spent the night at Hotel MPL on July 8, go collect them and find out what they did during their stay. Have a snack, see activity photos and participate in a dance party. Didn’t have time for a drop-off the day before? You are still welcome to attend. Grab your favorite furry friend and join in the fun. No registration is required.
- Touch the Trucks — 10 a.m.-noon July 10 in the parking lot across Quay Street from the library. Kids can get an up-close look at their favorite trucks. If weather is bad, the event will be canceled.
- 3D Printer Badging Session — 5-6:30 p.m. July 10. Join the event in the Idea Box makerspace for a demonstration of the 3D Printer. A library staff member will show participants how to use the 3D Printer, and upon completion of the training, participants will be “badged” so they can use the 3D Printer at their leisure. Space is limited and registration is required. Head to www.manitowoclibrary.org/event/3d-printer-badging-session-16586 to secure a spot. Participants must be 16 years old or older and those 16-17 must have a parent or guardian present to complete a waiver to use the equipment.
- Carrot-TOPIA! A 24-Carrot Potting Party! — 1-2 p.m. July 11. It will be a 24-carrot event, celebrating the valiant orange veggie. Families with kids of all ages are welcome to join as the library shares stories, plants seeds to take home, crunches some carrot snacks, and dances with a life-sized carrot.
- Movie Night: “Annihilation” — 5-7 p.m. July 11. The library’s Matt Mottl invites one and all to join him in the Balkansky Community Room for a screening of the 2018 movie “Annihilation” (rated R). Lena, a biologist and former soldier, joins a mission to uncover what happened to her husband inside Area X: a sinister and mysterious phenomenon that is expanding across the American coastline. Once inside, the expedition discovers a world of mutated landscapes and creatures, as dangerous as it is beautiful, that threatens both their lives and their sanity. Admission is free.

Ongoing events and programs:
- Brew ’N Bee IV: You Can’t Spell “Bee” Without “B” — Registration is open for the fourth annual orthographic scrum that will take place at PetSkull Brewing Company’s Outdoor Beer Garden from 6 to 8 p.m. July 24. A $20 participation fee will be associated with the Brew ’N Bee, and registration is required at www.manitowoclibrary.org/event/brew-n-bee-4.
- Summer Reading Program — Runs through Aug. 10. Read or be read to a total of 30 days to complete the program and earn weekly prizes just by reading. Register on the Beanstack app or pick up a paper tracker at the library. Free and for all ages. People will have until Aug. 17 to pick up prizes, while supplies last.
- “American Farmer: A Photo-Portrait Exhibition” — On view through Oct. 20 on the library’s first floor. The traveling “American Farmer” exhibit celebrates the living spirit of our heartland through the faces and voices of the people who keep it alive. It features 45 full-color and black-and-white portraits and interviews with farmers across the United States by photographer Paul Mobley.
- Employment and career assistance — Department of Workforce Development staff provide on-site services in MPL’s Franklin Street Room for both employment assistance and career counseling between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Tuesdays. For drop-in employment assistance, DWD staff will provide onsite services, including resume writing, assistance with online applications, assistance registering in Job Center of Wisconsin, and more, and no is appointment needed.
