Sophia Meisner earns Wisconsin 4-H Foundation scholarship

The Wisconsin 4-H Foundation awarded Sophia Meisner of Manitowoc a $1,000 Francis and Phyllis Conrad Memorial Scholarship.

Meisner has been active in her 4-H Club in Manitowoc County for 10 years. Her 4-H projects have had an emphasis in community service and STEM. She has held several leadership positions including camp counselor, leader of many community service projects, and has taught action planning to youth and adults at the Youth in Partnership for Civic Leadership and True Leaders in Equity conferences.

She is attending UW-Eau Claire, where she is exploring equity-focused career fields, particularly within nonprofit organizations. Her capstone 4-H project was the creation of a gleaning program at the local farmers’ market, collecting the unsold produce at the market and redistributing it to the Southfield Townhouses’ food pantry. As a result of her work in this 4-H project, Meisner was offered an internship at UW-Eau Claire where she conducts similar research at Eau Claire’s farmers’ market.

The Wisconsin 4-H Foundation awards scholarships annually to Wisconsin students pursuing higher education. Scholarship recipients are selected based on demonstrated personal growth, development and leadership, academic performance and future educational goals. This year, $29,000 in scholarships were awarded and only the top 5% of all applicants received a scholarship.
