    Boys track and field: Ponies place second at Relays Championship

    MANKATO — Stillwater finishes first in three of four field events and New Richmond won three events on the track, but it was the Tigers who pulled away for the victory in the Minnesota State Relay Championships on Friday, April 5 at Myers Fieldhouse on the campus of Minnesota State University, Mankato.

    New Richmond outscored the Ponies 692-652 while Coon Rapids finished third in the 15-team field with 622 points.

    Stillwater boasted three of the top four finishers in the pole vault to win that event with a four-person total of 50-0. Andrew Brekke and Henry Corbett each cleared 14-0 to finish second and third while teammate Liam Neis followed in fourth at 12-6.

    The high jump offered another first-place finish for the Ponies, led by individual winner Chase Johnson’s winning height of 6-4. Nagayo Barento tied for sixth at 5-10.

    Stillwater placed three individuals among the top 11 in the long jump to finish with a winning distance of 58-7. Eli Aldridge placed third with a leap of 20-2 1/4.

    The Ponies added second-place showings in the 4x100 throwers relay (54.50), the 4x400 relay (3:33.69) and the shot put (175-8 1/2).

    4x400 relay — 1. Coon Rapids, 3:33.39; 2. Stillwater (Dylan Riniker, Quinten Howe, Sam Fredericks and Soel Riser) 3:33.69.
