    Saints earn podium team finishes in Cougar Relays

    Thursday evening, the St. Peter track and field team made the short trip to Mankato East H.S. to compete in the annual Cougar Relays, a unique event that highlights team depth by combining non-relay events into relay style scoring. The girls team for the Saints finished second with a team score of 170 while the boys finished third with a score of 169.

    Individual top performances included Lucia Penner finishing eighth in the 1600m run with a time of 5:46.28 followed by third and fifth place finishes in the 100m hurdles from Lydia Fell (16.80) and Kyla Yost (17.37). The 4x100m relay team of Gretta Baker, Samantha Madden, Annika Magelee and Maren Swenson finished first with a time of 57.37.

    In the 4x400m relay, the team of Ella Dirks, Lydia Fell, Keira Friedrich and Liliana Prunty finished third with a time of 4:22.21. The team of Friedrich, Dirks, Robin Hibscher and Vivian Hendrickson then combined to completely dominate the 4x800m relay, posting a time of 9:44.59, three seconds under the MSHSL standard for Class AA.

    The 800m SMR team of Rachel Salfer, Macey Portner, Fell and Noelle Simonette finished third with a time of 1:59.73 while the 1600m SMR team of Salfer, Portner, Hendrickson and Hibscher finished third with a time of 4:37.07.

    In the DMR, Lucia Penner, Prunty, Dirks and Friedrich finished second with a time of 13:11.67. Samantha Madden and Annika Magelee finished fifth and sixth in the discus with throw of 89 feet and 10 inches as well as 89’5” respectively. In the high jump, Rowyn Myhra finished first with a PR clear of 5’ while Fell finished second with a clear of 4’10”.

    Magelee finished second in the pole vault with a clear of 9’6” followed by Laura Klatt (9’) finishing third and Kyla Yost (8’) claiming fifth. In the long jump, Liliana Prunty finished third with a top jump of 15’10.5”.

    Boys highlights began in the 1600m run with Alexander Bur posting a PR time of 4:35.62 to finish fifth. Corbin Herron swept the hurdles, taking first in the 110m with a time of 14.43 before taking first in the 300m hurdles with a time of 40.26.

    The 4x100m relay team of Ramiro Alcantara Alvarez, Derek Guth, Elijah Mercado and Isai Morales finished second with a time of 44.65. Alcantara Alvarez, Guth, Morales and Herron then combined to finish first in the 4x200m relay with a time of 1:30.79.

    The 1600m SMR relay team of Kemper Ely, Mohamed Jimale, Robert Hughes and Elijah Mercado finished third with a time of 3:57.20. The team of Roblae Abdi, Bur, Cole Filand and Kader Sayid Nour finished second in the DMR with a time of 11:28.16.

    In the shot put, Luke Banks finished first with a toss of 52’1” while Cole Junso finished seventh with a toss of 42’7”. Banks then finished second in the discus with a throw of 172’10” while Junso (133’) and Parker Maloney (121’1”) finished fourth and eighth respectively.

    Brock Guth finished fourth in the pole vault with a top clear of 11’6” while Derek Guth finished sixth with a jump of 11’. In the long jump, Isai Morales finished fourth with a top leap of 19’5.75”.
