CARROLL, Iowa (KCAU) – #1 Akron-Westfield’s quest for an IHSAA State Championship came to a halt at the hands of #4 Lynnville-Sully with a 4-0 loss in the 1A semifinal round. Westerners second baseman Hayden Wahlberg recorded three of the team’s five hits in the game. Akron-Westfield ends the season at 28-4 overall.

Food insecurity is prevalent throughout the state of Iowa, and the Perry Chamber is doing its best to support people within the community. Chamber Director Lynsi Pasutti tells Raccoon Valley Radio food insecurity is nothing new to the world, but notices that the issue is expanding. She says that the Perry Food Pantry is still seeing record numbers of people showing up to get food. Pasutti reminds residents that the weekly Farmer’s Markets offer assistance with food insecurity.

Dewey Park was Johnston’s first park and it has a playground that dates back to 1992. Over time, the playground equipment has started to wear out due to frequent usage and weather conditions that have degraded plastics and metal. The life expectancy of most of the playground equipment is 25 years, and after nearly 32 years of use, the large playground structure will be replaced with a new and exciting tree-themed adventure playground. On Monday, July 29, the larger playground will be closed to start the removal of the sidewalk and the structure. The rest of the park will remain open for visitors.

(West Des Moines, IA) -- A woman's facing charges after police say she stole a West Des Moines Police squad car and led police on a high-speed chase. Police say the chase started near South 60th Street and Village View Drive with a mental health call around 2 a.m. The woman was able to get into the squad car and drive off. ADEL, Iowa — An Adel family is calling for change along Highway 169 after their grandfather passed away on Sunday from being in a car accident. According to the Dallas County Sheriff's Office, Jack Chapman, 87, was stopped on N Avenue near the intersection of Common Place.
