MANNINGTON, W.Va. (WBOY) — The City of Mannington will be holding a grand opening on Thursday to celebrate its new pool and splash pad as well as the Fourth of July.

The dedication ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. and will include free entry into the pool and splash pad as well as hot dogs, chips, drinks and raffles. Free swimming will take place from the start of the ceremony until fireworks at dark.

Gov. Justice declares July 5 a state holiday in West Virginia

“I swam in the old pool, and we weren’t going to have one for the kids of our next generation, and they deserve it. One of my mottos is ‘why not us? Why should we have to drive 20 miles to go to a pool when we can have one right in our backyard?’” Mannington Mayor Lora Michael said.

Mayor Michael wants to thank the community and said that if it wasn’t for them and the city’s large sponsors, the pool and splash pad would not have happened.
