    Lexington's Makaree Chapman named Ohio Cardinal Conference Softball Pitcher of the Year

    MANSFIELD — Lexington junior Makaree Chapman had a year she won't soon forget.

    After hitting .506 with 44 hits, 11 doubles, four triples, a home run, 34 RBIs and 33 runs scored while also dominating in the circle going 18-2 with two saves and a 1.63 earned run average with 208 strikeouts in 141 ⅓ innings of work, she was named the Ohio Cardinal Conference Pitcher of the Year. She piloted Lady Lex to their first OCC championship since 2009.

    Chapman was joined by teammates Jillian Morr, Kylie Galownia and Kaylie Eichorn as first-team selections along with Madison's Layla Azmoun and Kyleigh Reiter. Morr hit .490 with 47 hits, 10 doubles, three home runs, 18 RBIs and 42 runs scored while Galownia hit .516 with 47 hits, nine doubles, a triple, 24 RBIs and 38 runs scored, and Eichorn hit .425 with 34 hits, 12 doubles, a home run, 37 RBIs and 32 runs scored.

    Reiter had possibly the best offensive year of anyone in Richland County, hitting .560 with 40 hits, 14 doubles, five triples, three home runs, 34 RBIs and 31 runs scored while Azmoun was lights out in the circle all year long going 20-6 with a 2.22 ERA and 217 strikeouts in 164 ⅓ innings of work.

    Madison's Izzy Wamsley and Emily Nolan were joined by Lexington's Kylie Thornton and Quinn Patrick as second-team selections while Lex's Kyra Boyd and Madyson Taylor and Madison's Campbell Kiser and Emma Stankovich were honorable mentions.
