Mansfield News Journal staffers earn eight Ohio Associated Press Media Editors awards

The Mansfield News Journal earned eight awards Sunday in one of Ohio's most prestigious journalism contest .

Mansfield competed in the circulation Division III of 12,000 to 18,999 subscribers during the 2023 Ohio Associated Press Managing Editor contest, which was hosted at Villa Milano in Columbus.

The paper's awards were split evenly between the news and sports desks.

Jake Furr, the News Journal's sports reporter, won first place in the best sports enterprise category as well as second place for best sports columnist.

Furr also led the paper to earning first place for best daily sports section and second place for best special sports section.

Zach Tuggle earned three awards during the contest. He placed second in best feature writer, second in best news writer, and second in best explanatory reporting.

Mark Caudill placed third in the best enterprise reporting category.
