Mansfield, Pa — A suspect was arrested for setting a clothing donation shed on fire last month in Tioga County.

Fred Franklin Carew Jr., 55, of Mansfield, was charged with felony arson for the incident that occured on June 27 at the Mansfield VFW, according to state police at Mansfield.

State police fire marshal Nathan Birth was called to the scene shortly after 4 a.m. to investigate. A surveillance video showed Carew at the scene a short time before the fire started. Through his investigation, Birth ruled the fire was arson, according to a police report.

Carew was arrested the next day and taken to District Judge Tiffany Cumming's office for arraignment on charges of arson, criminal mischief, and causing catastrophe. Cummings denied Carew bail, based on the fact that he refused to participate in the arraignment and asked to be taken to jail.

Carew remains in Tioga County Prison awaiting his preliminary hearing scheduled for July 24.
