Y-Not Stop recognizes first responders
PINEVILLE, La. (KALB) - First responders in Cenla had the chance to enjoy a free meal on Wednesday. The gas station and convenience store chain, “Y-Not Stop” joined the National Association of Convenience Stores Foundation to celebrate the annual “24/7 Day” to recognize the first responders, medical personnel, and American Red Cross volunteers who work to serve our community daily.
APD Searching for Murder Suspect
Alexandria, La - The Alexandria Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance on the whereabouts of 23-year-old Darrell Jefferson of Alexandria LA. Jefferson is wanted for Second Degree Murder in connection with the June 18, 2024 homicide in the 2700 block of Overton Street. Jefferson is described as a black male, 5’9”, and 130 lbs.

BATON ROUGE - Teachers from Iberville Parish, Ascension Parish and the Zachary Community School District are amongst the finalists for Louisiana's New Teacher of the Year. Ashlie Duplessis, an English teacher at Bluff Ridge Primary, Olivia Landry, a social studies teacher at MSA West Academy and Baxton Michel, a math teacher at Zachary High School, all finished as finalists for the Louisiana New Teacher of the Year award.
Seven People Charged in Narcotics Investigation in Thibodaux
Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced seven people have been charged after narcotics agents found drugs at two Thibodaux residences. All face drug-related charges. Narcotics agents recently began investigating illegal narcotics activity on North Hidalgo Lane in Thibodaux after receiving intelligence about residences on the street. Agents identified two residences in the 1800 block that were believed to be involved with drug activity. Through investigation, they learned some of the individuals involved were either on probation or parole.

Natchitoches police investigating shooting on Lakeview Drive
NATCHITOCHES, La. (KALB) - The Natchitoches Police Department said they are investigating an early morning shooting that happened on Lakeview Drive. NPD responded to the 400 block of Lakeview Drive around 4:01 a.m. on July 25 regarding gunshots in the area. When officers arrived, they found several bullet casings in the road with property damage to a vehicle and a residence.

DA announces dispositions in theft cases
District Attorney Billy Joe Harrington announced the dispositions in three felony theft cases. Matthew Robinson, 20 of Natchitoches, violated the terms of his probation. In 2022, Robinson originally pleaded guilty to theft. The theft related to an unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. He was sentenced to felony probation, with several terms and conditions in which he must adhere. In April 2024, a probation revocation hearing was held due to Robinson accused of violating the terms of his probation. Judge Sylvester ruled Robinson was in violation and ordered him to serve the original sentence of 10 years of incarceration at hard labor.

Jessie Fontenot with JA Fontenot Enterprises closed on a deal to purchase the 2.85 acres at 4603 Johnston St. for the popular quick-serve restaurant along with a Scooter’s Coffee location and another development to be announced later, Fontenot said.
