Both the Falcons boys lacrosse and Wings girls lacrosse teams played twice last week, each picking wins against Totino-Grace or Totino-Grace/St. Anthony on April 15, before both losing battles with Maple Grove on April 17.
Armstrong boys
The Armstrong boys lacrosse team started last week strong with a 13-4 win over Totino-Grace on April 15 in its first road game of the year.
The Falcons then traveled to Maple Grove on April 17 for a big Northwest Suburban Conference battle, which they eventually lost 13-9 to the Crimson. The defeat, Armstrong’s first of the season, was a hard-fought one.
Jameson Essen, Jack Olson, Luke Juaire, Aidan Robb, and Logan Marsh all scored for the Falcons, who closed the gap from 13-5 at the start of the fourth quarter to 13-9 at the final whistle. Essen led the scorers with four goals, including the first and last of the game. Olson scored twice.
AC girls
The Armstrong/Cooper girls started the week with a big 10-9 win over Totino-Grace/St. Anthony on April 15 to continue a positive start to its season.
The win was no simple matter. The Wings trailed 4-0 at the first intermission after a crisp start from the visitors. Brielle Anderson started the comeback with a goal, before assisting Katie Palony’s first of the night. Palony went on to score six as Armstrong/Cooper powered to a second win of the season.
The Wings won a nail-bighter in the final minute with a goal from Jozy Doty with 24 seconds to play. Ashley Storlie and Sophie Skoog also scored on the night.
The girls then ended the week with an 18-4 loss to a strong Maple Grove team, their first defeat of the 2024 season. The Wings ended the week with a 2-1 conference and overall record.
Armstrong/Cooper will play two games the following week, traveling to Rogers on Wednesday, April 24, and hosting St. Michael-Albertville on Friday, April 26.
