House fire in Maple Grove displaces family

Neighbors in a Maple Grove development called in a house fire last week that left a family displaced due to damage.

Maple Grove Fire Chief Tim Bush said that two fire stations were paged out just after 11 p.m. on July 17. He said, “Neighbors on West Fish Lake Road reported they could see a house on fire across the street from them.”

Once on the scene, Maple Grove Assistant Fire Chief Mike Kinnan noted he could see flames extending at least 30 feet into the air above a single-story house with a walk-out basement on Quantico Lane in Maple Grove.

Kinnan requested a second alarm assignment resulting in Maple Grove Fire Stations 2 and 4 going to the scene and Maple Grove Fire Station 3 providing city coverage during the event. A second alarm also requests a Life Support Unit from the Golden Valley Fire Department to provide firefighter health and safety monitoring between firefighter work cycles.

“The family was home at the time of the fire and was able to get out safely,” Bush said. “One person was seen by paramedics from North Ambulance for possible smoke inhalation and transported for evaluation.”

Officers located and prepared fire hydrants for fire department use.

One fire engine controlled water to the fire along the ground to the exterior of the house, quickly knocking down the fire. A second fire engine used a hand-line into the house through the front door to reach a bedroom fire and worked to extinguish those flames.

“Additional crews were able to confirm extinguishment while searching for hot spots,” Bush said.

The family was displaced due to the extend of fire and smoke damage, he added.

Maple Grove Fire Marshal Bill Abderhalden is leading the Maple Grove investigation efforts to determine origin and cause of this fire.
