PHOTOSTREAM: Wesli @ City Stages by Anastasia Pantsios
The second edition of the Cleveland Museum of Art’s global music series City Stages featured a knockout performance by Haitian-Canadian band Wesli, an eight-piece ensemble fronted by vocalist/guitarist Wesley Louissaint. The polyglot music of this Montreal-based group draws on Afrobeat, Latin, hip hop, soul, reggaeton, reggae, traditional Haitian music, and American pop and rock to create something that’s really different from your standard indie band. They put on a show for the large crowd assembled outdoors at the intersection on West 29th and Church that had people dancing in every nook and cranny. You couldn’t sit still to their intensely rhythmic sound, with a two-piece horn section, Wesley’s virtuoso guitar and the band members’ exuberant dancing.
