U.S. Air Force Contests EPA's Cleanup Order for PFAS Contamination at Tucson Superfund Site
The U.S. Air Force is pushing back against the Environmental Protection Agency's demand for an expedited cleanup of hazardous chemicals at a Tucson Superfund site, challenging the urgency and legal grounds of the EPA's order. Last May, the EPA issued an administrative emergency order for the Air Force and Arizona Air National Guard to tackle the risk posed by per- and polyfluoroakyl substances (PFAS) at the Tucson International Airport Area Superfund Site, citing the Safe Drinking Water Act. These substances are linked to adverse health effects including cancer and immune system damage, as reported by the AZPM News.

Sonoran Singers wiill Perform for Senior Village's Music Matinee in August
Our Sonoran Singers annual summer hiatus will soon be over, and we look forward to getting back in the enjoyment of singing together again. We are very grateful to be asked to perform for our SaddleBrooke Community in our first performance on Thursday, August 22 at the music matinee sponsored by SaddleBrooke’s Senior Village. As always, it is a free concert to all community residents. Join us in the MountainView Ballroom. The music matinee will begin at 2 p.m. with the Coyote Country Cloggers and the Sonoran Singers will follow next at 2:30 p.m.

Once you’ve met Maggie de Block, you won’t forget her! A powerhouse of energy and great ideas, she recently accepted the reins as the SaddleBrooke Sunrise Rotary Club’s newest President on Thursday, June 20. Her inspiring and capable predecessor, Ron Lenz, also inducted new officers: Gary Haslett, Jennifer Williams, and Roger Swett in their respective roles as Secretary, Project Coordinator, and Treasurer. These friendly and dedicated volunteers—along with their club members—are committed to making a difference both inside and outside SaddleBrooke.

Starting in June, the club switches to a workshop environment where members and guests bring their laptops to the sessions. They work with the club’s experienced researchers on their own projects. It can be one on one, or small groups learning from club experts working on their own family trees. There was no meeting in July as it conflicted with the Fourth of July. Similar workshop sessions will be held in August and September.

Kitten rescued by Arizona DPS, Good samaritan
Arizona DPS Troopers were forced to get creative to save a distressed kitten trapped near a Valley freeway. The agency shared a video of an incident back in May after a man was seen leaning over the edge of a freeway in Tempe. 911 callers were worried he was suicidal, but it turns out he was trying to save a kitten trapped on the side of the overpass.
