Seminar to help veterans secure death benefits
WAUSAU – The Marathon County Veterans Service Office and Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Homes and Crematory will host a free seminar for veterans and their families to learn how to pre-register for state and national cemeteries, military markers and medallions, and military honors, as well as how to personalize funeral and memorial options.

Marathon County Community Resource Unit Conducts Drug Investigation in Wausau
On June 25th, the Marathon County Community Resource Unit conducted a drug investigation on the northeast side of Wausau, which led to a search warrant being executed at a residence, resulting in the seizure of three quarters of a pound of marijuana, a quarter pound of cocaine, and an illegally possessed firearm.
Counties examine potential hiking trail between Wausau and Merrill
Marathon and Lincoln Counties are working together to develop a new recreational trail between Wausau and Merrill, a plan that is still in the early stages. The approximately 25-mile trail along the Wisconsin River could become part of Segment 18 of the state’s Trails Network Plan, developed by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. Stretching from Tomahawk to Wisconsin Dells, the trail runs through other counties and intersperses with other trails. Wausau and Marathon County Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department and Lincoln County Forestry, Land and Parks Department officials are responsible for the recreational trail path that connects them.

However, the crowds can make it more difficult to keep the water clean during the summer. More people means more bacteria.
