Once again – it’s time to rodeo!

Held on the third weekend in July, this year the main event is scheduled for Friday, July 19, and Saturday, July 20.

On those dates Marble Falls will saddle up for the annual rodeo, produced by Cadillac Rodeo with Johnny Hoyle, in partnership with the Marble Falls Rodeo Association at the Charley Taylor Arena, U.S. 281 South.

The activities start with the Junior Rodeo on Wednesday, July 17. The books open at 6 p.m. and youth competition be- gins at 7 p.m.

For the adult rodeo, qualifying heats are Thursday, Slack Night, when riders compete to advance to the competitions Friday and Saturday. The books open at 6 p.m. and Slack starts at 7 p.m.

On Friday and Saturday, the 19th and 20th, the gates open at 6:30 p.m. On Friday night, attendees can also enjoy activities including mutton bustin’, calf scramble, First Responders Steer Saddle and the Rodeo Queen Contest. The Queen, 1st Runner-Up and 2nd Runner-Up will be announced at the beginning of the rodeo Friday night. It’s BYOB on Friday Night and also Pink Out. First Responders will be participating in a good-natured steer saddling competition for bragging rights.

On Friday and Saturday night, there will be two heats for mutton bustin.’ The child must be between 4 and 7 years old and under 60 lbs. (to protect the sheep). The two winners can win a free pair of boots from Blair’s Western Wear.

Rodeo action both nights begins at 8 p.m. Events include: bull riding, calf roping, cowgirl’s barrel racing, cowgirl’s breakaway roping, ranch bronc riding, saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling and team roping. The events are CPRA and UPRA sanctioned.

Live music is scheduled for each night. Southern Underground plays Friday night and Adam Fears Band will play on Saturday.

Tickets can be purchased online or cash (only) at the gate. $20 per person; $15 ages 7-15; free for ages 6 and under. The Junior Rodeo and Slack are also free; admission covers the dance (BYOB).

The Marble Falls Rodeo Association was established in 1957. The organization, a well-established and vital part of business and social life in Marble Falls, supports rodeo athletes, promotes rodeo activities and is dedicated to preserving the tradition of rodeo in the local community.
