A longtime member and former chief of the Brush Valley Fire Department has passed away. (Photo courtesy Bowser Funeral Home and Cremation Services) Edward “Dick” Altemus died on Wednesday. He served the Brush Valley Fire Department for 65 years, 63 of them as its chief. He was also employed as a machinist for Fisher Scientific for 35 years. Altemus was also a fixture at Penns Manor sporting events and was also a coach for several teams.

Arts and music set for Clarion Summer Fest’s third weekend
Clarion Summer Fest’s Arts and Music weekend, organized by The Local Clarion County, will run from Friday, Aug. 2, through Sunday, Aug. 4. The event features the Glassblowers Village in Memorial Park, showcasing crafts from glassblowers across the Northeast, and an art glass exhibit by Dominick Labino at the Clarion County Historical Society. Shapiro Administration Invests $200,000 to Train Workers with Disabilities for Manufacturing Jobs

On Wednesday, July 17, Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) Secretary Rick Siger announced a new $200,000 investment by the Shapiro Administration in the Community Integrated Services (CIS) Manufacturing Accelerator Program that will provide Pennsylvanians with disabilities the skills they need to secure jobs with local manufacturers. The Manufacturing PA Training-to-Career (MTTC) grant will fund program locations at Drexel University and the Community College of Philadelphia. Upon completion, participants will receive assistance in applying to jobs with local manufacturers, and once hired, will receive support as needed.
