Phoenix, the capital of the southwestern U.S. state of Arizona, where model Amber Valetta, Fleetwood Mac’s singer Steve Nicks, and former Wonder Woman and Miss World USA Lynda Carter were born, can be a great travel destination for those looking for some friendly sunshine. And this Summer, Phoenix is a sure bet for those also looking for a budget-friendly city across the country.

However, if you want to find what to do or where to go in a city, without spending much and making your money go a long way, you better ask a local.

And that is exactly what I did. I asked seasoned city locals, always up for a saving challenge, what the coolest things you can do in Phoenix for under $100 this Summer. And here is what I have learned.

Enjoy a show at the state's oldest theatre
“Looking for culture and fun? Consider taking in a show at the state's oldest producing theatre in Arizona. The Phoenix Theatre Company just opened for its 102nd season, employing artisans from across the Valley to create sets, design costumes, direct and perform in plays and musicals, and more. The current season includes classics like Steel Magnolias, Camelot, and The Rocky Horror Show. Tickets start at $44.”

    Arts and authentic Italian pizza

“Start by heading to the Phoenix Farmers Market in the morning to grab a coffee and a quick morning snack and walk around the vendors. Then head to Forno 301 for an authentic Italian pizza. After that, head across the street to the Phoenix Art Museum for just $20. Finally, end the day at the Churchill to grab dinner and a drink; I recommend Stoop Kid!”

Explore art and history on a bus
“The 1.5 hour Scottsdale Segway tour is a great way to learn about the history and art that makes the city great. You’ll glide through Oldtown and the Downtown areas. There will be an introduction to more than 20 points of interest, and you’ll have a great idea of where to shop and eat.”

Discover the U.S Native American culture

The Heard Museum is a great activity that’s under $100. It showcases Native American art and culture in the U.S. The Museum offers a close look at different styles of art through exhibits, live performances, and demonstrations. Artists promote their art during the week and live music is available on weekends.”

Play with bubbles at the Science Center

Nestled in the Heritage and Science Park, the Summer events at the Arizona Science Center includes ‘POP! The Science of Bubbles’, an immersive experience for the whole family.

Visitors will get a chance to engage with hands-on activities like making bubbles with wands of all shapes and sizes. Bubble tables, giant bubbles created while you stand inside them, and a massive bubble drop every 15-20 minutes, are also part of the event that combines fun with learning the science behind bubbles, but also concepts like elasticity, evaporation, and geometry. Access to Pop! The Science of Bubbles is included with the Science Center general admission, which costs $19.95 for adults, and entrance for children under 3 is always free.
