According to WRIC 8 News, students at Sussex County Public Schools will have an asynchronous learning day on Monday, April 8, due to the solar eclipse.

    Asynchronous learning day

    According to Wikipedia:

"Asynchronous learning is a general term used to describe forms of education, instruction, and learning that do not occur in the same place or at the same time. It is a time when students work independently on assignments from home without live instruction or technology. Teachers may assign video notes, projects, or worksheets on topics that students are currently learning in class."

According to a school system spokesperson, the asynchronous learning day is “due to the safety risks associated with the solar eclipse.”

The spokesperson said there is a risk of eye damage if students look at the sun during the partial eclipse.

Chesterfield County Public Schools will dismiss students three hours and 15 minutes early on April 8.

For more information as to how to view the eclipse safely, visit NASA’s website.
