My son visited his friend who had just moved to King and Queen County in Virginia. He shared some interesting things about the rural county, which is a 54-minute drive from Richmond, where we live.

    About King and Queen County

King and Queen County, with a population of only 6,608, should not be mistaken for King William County, which has a population of 17,810.

King and Queen County was established in 1691 from New Kent County and was named for King William III and Queen Mary II of England.

Even in the 21st century, King and Queen County contains no incorporated towns or cities and remains one of Virginia's most sparsely populated counties.

King and Queen County is about 70 miles long and about 10 miles wide at its widest point. It's the longest county in Virginia, spanning 326 square miles with 315 miles of land and 11 miles of water. The county is nestled in the triangle of I-95, I-64, and Route 17, with Route 360 and Route 33 running through it.

    A hidden gem

According to Virginia Tourism, King and Queen County is a hidden gem in Virginia, where history meets natural beauty, and adventure awaits around every corner.
