Chesterfield’s Arson K-9, Clover, is turning six years old on Friday, July 19, 2024, according to the Chesterfield County Fire & EMS.

    About Clover

Clover is a female Fox Red Labrador Retriever who works with Chesterfield Fire Marshal Lt. Carlos Shedd as an accelerant detection dog. She joined Chesterfield County Fire & EMS in 2019 when she was only 17 months old.

She has been trained in accelerant detection and helping fire investigators determine the cause of fires.

    Lt. Shedd said:

"Clover's skillful smell saves investigators both time and money. Without her, we would spend hours, we're talking 10 to 40 hours, to acquire what we can acquire with her in an afternoon."

Clover's special gift is sniffing out accelerants at a scene and determining whether a fire might be arson.

    WTVR 6 News said:

"Clover has one of the best sniffers in the South and can do a week's worth of work in one afternoon."

Clover loves what she does, and she loves being around people. Unlike other employees, Clover doesn't get a paycheck. Instead, she works for treats.

Lt. Shedd said the ultimate goal is to work with Clover for another four years, and then they will retire together.
