Teen apparel rue21 is closing all its 540 locations, including 21 stores in Virginia

According to 13 News Now, rue21 is closing all of its stores in Virginia and going out of business. The teen apparel retailer expects to complete the "going out of business sales" at all its locations within a few weeks.

According to court documents, rue21 attempted to sell its business, but none of the bids were as much as could be earned through shutting down all stores and liquidating its inventory.

Bankruptcy three times

The company has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on three occasions: 2003, 2017, and 2024. Now, rue21 plans to close all its remaining 540 stores, 21 in Virginia and 2 in Richmond.
