'Hats Off to Powerful Women's Brunch' scheduled in Richmond, Virginia

WRIC 8 News reported that the seventh annual Hats Off to Powerful Women’s Brunch will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 17 at the Hilton Richmond Hotel and Spa Short Pump, located at 12042 West Broad Street, Richmond, Virginia 23233.

Morning Anchors Autumn Childress and Delaney Hall spoke with Dr. Omega Wilson about the annual scholarship fundraiser that aims to send students to college and help them financially with their higher education.

Dr. Wilson said:

“This last school year we offered four $1,000 scholarships. Our recipients came from Texas, Baltimore, Dinwiddie, and Prince Edward County.”

Dr. Wilson added that the event always focuses on the mind, body, and spirit. It will also hold a fancy hat contest for attendees to win the best hat prize.

This year’s guest speaker will be Dr. Ilyasah Shabazz. She is the third daughter of Malcolm X and Betty Shabazz, She wrote a memoir titled Growing Up X.
