    Big Lots will close nine stores in Virginia

    According to WTKR, Big Lots is closing about 315 of its stores across the United States. An earlier version of this story stated that 42 stores in Virginia would close. However, an updates states that only nine stores in Virginia are closing.

    Three stores are in Central Virginia, four are in the Tidewater area, and two are in Northern Virginia.

    Central Virginia

    What Big Lots is saying

    Big Lots said in a statement to CNN:

    “We are.taking decisive actions to operate efficiently and reviewing the store's footprint on an ongoing basis to make sure we’re best positioned to serve our customers and our business.”

    A Big Lots spokesperson said that although a “majority” of its stores are profitable, it’s making the “difficult decision to close certain underperforming stores.”

    Big Lots concluded:

    “We are confident that the steps we are taking will best position the company for the future as we return to our roots, focus on owning the bargain space, and deliver unmistakable value to our customers.”
