A mysterious black ring appeared in the sky in Williamsburg, Virginia

According to WAVY News, a mysterious black ring appeared in the sky over Williamsburg, Virginia last Tuesday.

Nexstar’s WAVY started receiving messages shortly after 11 a.m. as viewers reached out with images and videos of the black ring floating in the sky.

Ron Stepp was working near Eastern State Hospital in Williamsburg when the ring appeared in the sky. He described it as a huge smoke ring and said it disappeared after about 10 minutes.

Another person in the area of Old Mooretown Road stopped to snap some photos of it.

WAVY viewer Peggy Olszyk sent in a photo she took in Williamsburg, and another viewer sent a photo of the ring taken on Interstate 64 westbound at the Fort Eustis exit.

Renee Fisher snapped photos of the black ring in the sky in the Waller Mill area of Williamsburg. One of Fisher's photos appears at the top of this article.

Social media posts

Articles and social media posts describing similar sightings in other regions pointed to a fire or explosion that likely created the ring. However, the James River County Fire Department hadn't heard any reports.

WAVY has contacted other regional authorities and has not heard of any possible sources of the mysterious black ring in the sky. Therefore, the mystery has not been solved.
