    Three Henrico schools were cancelled on the first day

    Three Henrico County Public Schools were canceled on Monday, August 19, the the first day back after summer break.

    Douglas S. Freedom High School

    Just 22 minutes after first period began at Douglas S. Freeman High School, school officials announced that classes for the rest of the day would be cancelled and students were sent home.

    There had been a storm in the Tuckahoe area on Sunday night, August 18, that caused a power outage in part of the school.

    Maybeury Elementary School

    Officials and parents at Maybeury Elementary School in the Tuckahoo area had a little more time to plan. The announcement went out on Sunday night that the school would be cancelled on Monday.

    Rivers Edge Elementary Scbool

    Administrators at Rivers Edge Elementary School in the Glen Allen area told families that the first day of school would be Wednesday, August 21 instead of Monday. That school experienced an electrical issue that is unrelated to the power outages at the two Tuckahoe-area schools.
