A family favorite is Mr. B's Restaurant in Chester, Virginia

I have a very large family. Three sisters live in Richmond, Virginia, and two sisters live nearby in Chester, Virginia. We meet regularly with our children and grandchildren for dinner at each other's houses.

I am always glad when my Chester sisters host the dinners. They live close to Mr. B's Soul Food Restaurant, located at 11844 Chester Village Drive, Chester, Virginia 23831.

Calling in orders

When all family members arrive, the Chester sister hosting the dinner acts as a waitress and takes everybody's order. She goes around the room and writes down what each person wants. Then she calls in the orders. When the food is ready, someone goes to Mr. B's to pick up the dinners.

Then, the dinners are passed out to individuals who ordered what they wanted. The servings are large enough to be shared. After the food had been blessed, people began asking:

• "Who wants some of my fish?"
• "Does anyone want some of my potato salad?"
• "I can't eat all these collard green. Who wants some?"

Mr. B's menu

Mr. B's has a variety of meats. Therefore, my big family has no problem making their selections. The choices usually include a variety of meats.

Mr. B's also has a variety of sides:

Even though Mr. B's has delicious desserts and beverages, we don't order them. Someone usually brings a dessert from home, and the host supplies the drinks.
