WRIC 8 News reported that Richmond officials have confirmed that the city’s Greyhound Bus Service, located at 2910 N Arthur Ashe Blvd, Richmond, VA 23230, will close in October 2024.

Reasons the bus station will close

Thirty-three of Greyhound’s properties across the country were purchased by Twenty Lake Holdings in 2021, including locations in Chicago, Cleveland, Charlottesville, and Richmond.

Plans are to turn the buildings into apartments or office buildings. However, the Connecticut-based real estate investment firm said there is no official plan to replace the bus service, which will be lost when the station is no longer in operation.

FlixBus, which has operated Richmond’s Greyhound service since the two companies merged in 2021, told 8News that the company is working on a multi-year agreement with the city to operate a bus stop across the street from Main Street Station — where some Greyhound busses have already been stopping since July.

Richmond Chief Administrative Officer Lincoln Saunders told 8News that city officials are working to ensure that this change means residents who rely on transit will not be left without a way to travel to and from the city.

    Saunders said:

“We’ll continue to work to make sure that bus service is available, obviously through our Greater Richmond Transit Company [GRTC], but [also] working with partners such as Amtrak and Greyhound to make sure that our residents and visitors can access the city through bus and train.”

Richmond City Council is expected to decide whether to approve the bus stop outside Main Street Station in the coming months.
