There must be something special for a restaurant or any other establishment to win over 250 awards. That happened to Checkered Pig BBQ & Ribs in Martinville, Virginia. The restaurant won all those awards for its mouth-watering barbecue.

About Checkered Pig BBQ & Ribs

The Checkered Pig BBQ & Ribs, located at 1014 Liberty Street, #1302, Martinsville, VA 24112, has been in business since 1997. It has won the hearts of locals and visitors with the restaurant's BBQ.

The restaurant had an unexpected beginning. Tommy was working as a firefighter and volunteered to smoke a pig for the firehouse event.

After everyone at the event raved about the barbecue, Tommy opened up a small catering business on the side. Seventeen years later, he and his wife Lisa decided to open up the Checkered Pig, then known as Pigs 'R Us. They later changed the name to The Checkered Pig but still serve the same award-winning BBQ, ribs, brisket, chicken, and sauces.
