WWBT 12 News On Your Side reported that Chesterfield Fire and EMS have a warning for residents after an oven was destroyed when a handgun went off inside a homeowner's oven, and five rounds went off.

“PLEASE DO NOT STORE GUNS OR ANYTHING ELSE IN YOUR OVEN.”

This serious warning comes in all CAPS from Chesterfield firefighters after they responded to a call on Thursday, September 5, 2024 and found a handgun inside an oven.

Chesterfield Fire and EMS said in a social media post:

“It turns out, someone turned the oven on with the gun inside, the weapon heated up, and five rounds went off. Thankfully, no one was hurt, but the situation could have turned out much differently.”

The firefighters also urged gun owners to store firearms properly.

    Chesterfield Fire and EMS concluded:

“Keep them somewhere secure, like a gun safe."
