Rat up for adoption after left outside Colonial Heights Animal Control

WRIC 8 News reported that a rat is up for adoption after being outside Colonial Heights Animal Control.

According to the animal shelter, staff members found what they thought were donations, but it was an abandoned rat in a tote bin and a bag of wood shavings.

The security camera footage determined that the rat had been outside the facility for at least 12 hours.

The animal shelter said in a Facebook post:

“This is not or never the answer to get rid of any pet no matter species, breed [or] size. There was a hole in the lid which was big enough that this little guy could’ve easily escaped.”

The rat was discovered on September 4, but it had to be kept for ten days before it could go up for adoption on September 14.

The rat will be available for visitation and adoption applications starting Monday, September 16.

    Third animal

This is at least the third time an animal has been found abandoned in Colonial Heights in the last few months.
