Donnie Glass is the chef and owner of Beaucoup Oysters, located at 111 N Robinson Street, Richmond, VA 23220. The bar is popular in Richmond, Virginia because of oysters, its main menu item.

Beaucoup's owner says this is seafood season in Richmond because seafood is plentiful and less expensive.

    Glass said:

“The entire menu is based on oysters and Atlantic seafood.”

What's so special about oysters, and why would a bar base its entire menu on oysters?

    Reasons to eat oysters

Oysters are commonly consumed and are regarded as a delicacy in some localities. When Glass started his oyster bar, he knew it would be popular. He knew seafood lovers enjoy eating oysters for their taste, health benefits, and versatility.

    • Taste: Oysters have a unique briny, salty taste and chewy texture. They also contain umami, one of the five basic tastes that humans can detect.
    • Health benefits: Oysters are a rich source of protein, omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, minerals, and vitamins. They are also high in zinc, which can help boost the immune system.
    • Versatility: Oysters can be eaten in many different ways. They can be eaten raw, fried, smoked, or breaded and enjoyed as an appetizer, side dish, or main course.
