WRIC 8 News reported that a 14-year-old and two 15-year-old students were charged after a 17-year-old student was stabbed at Meadowbrook High School in Chesterfield County.

    The stabbing

At about 12:18 p.m. on Tuesday, October 1, Meadowbrook High School administrators told the Chesterfield County Police Department that a fight was taking place in a hallway in the school.

According to police, a 17-year-old boy was stabbed during that fight. His injuries were considered serious, and he was taken to a local hospital. He is currently in stable condition, according to police.

    A 14-year-old boy charged

Officers took a 14-year-old boy into custody without incident. He was later charged with assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a weapon on school property. He is currently being held at the Chesterfield Juvenile Detention Home.

Investigators determined two 15-year-old boys helped the 14-year-old student conceal the knife after the stabbing. Those two students were each charged with possession of a weapon on school property and conspiracy after the fact. Following the charges, both boys were released to their parents pending court appearances.

Details have not been determined as to what caused the fight. However, detectives reported that the 14-year-old alleged attacker and the 17-year-old victim knew each other.

    School closed after the stabbing

In response to the traumatic event, Meadowbrook High School was closed on Wednesday to offer counseling and mental health services for students and staff.

Chesterfield County Public Schools interim superintendent John Murray sent a statement to staff and families on Tuesday concerning the stabbing.
