    JFS Village by the Shore announces August programming

    MARGATE - The Lynn Kramer Village by the Shore at Jewish Family Service offers cool programs during the hot summer season. Check out these fun, unique and entertaining programs in August.

    Village Goes to the Ventnor Farmers Market, Friday, Aug. 2, 16, and 30, 8:30 a.m. to noon

    Visit or volunteer to assist at the Village informational table at the Ventnor Farmers Market, at St. James Church parking lot, New Haven and Atlantic avenues. Meet, greet and share your enthusiasm for Village events and services as you enjoy sunshine, sea air and an opportunity to shop from local farmers and vendors. Admission is free.     35th Annual JFS House Tour, Monday, Aug. 5, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

    The highly anticipated House Tour, presented by Surroundings Interiors, will provide hundreds of guests with the rare opportunity to tour several luxurious Downbeach homes. The magnificent homes feature state-of-the-art gourmet kitchens, custom woodworking, unique décor and lighting, and beautiful landscaping. All attendees will enjoy a complimentary lunch, sponsored by Oasis Property Group, and a complimentary Peace Pie ice cream sandwich dessert sponsored by BAYADA Home Health Care, Fountain View at Logan Square, and Peace Pie. Tickets are $75 and raffle tickets are $25 each or five for $100 and may be purchased at jfsatlantic.org. JFS is also hosting an on-line auction with items including dining certificates, sporting tickets, jewelry, designer handbags, and more.     Thoughts from the Bookshelf, Tuesday, Aug. 6, 3 p.m.

    Join Village Community Specialist Tina Serota as she welcomes facilitator Pat Goldstein for a book club gathering. This month, the group will discuss the book, “Memphis,” by Tara M. Stringfellow. The spellbinding debut novel traces three generations of a southern Black family and one daughter’s discovery that she has the power to change her family’s legacy. Attend in person at the Margate Library Meeting Room, 8100 Atlantic Ave., Margate. RSVP by Aug. 1.

    Positivity Project Joins The Mindful Movers, Wednesday, Aug. 7, 14, 21, and 28, 9 a.m.

    Join Village Community Specialist Tina Serota as she explores mindfulness, gratitude and meditation followed by a walk with friends and neighbors on the Ventnor boardwalk. Care for your mind, spirit, and body. Program begins at the park in the back of the Ventnor Library between South Newport and South New Haven avenues. RSVP by the Monday prior to each walk.

    Lunch Around Town, Monday, Aug. 12, 12-1:30 p.m.

    Enjoy a leisurely lunch with friends while supporting a local restaurant. Dine this month at the Windjammer Café Bar & Grille, 18 MacArthur Blvd., Somers Point. Come prepared for good food and conversation. Order off the menu and pay individually. RSVP by August 8.

    Village Film Society, Tuesday, Aug. 13, 10:30 a.m.

    Join Village film enthusiast and historic cinematic buff Tom Celandine and Village Community Specialist Tina Serota for a discussion about the Academy Award-winning documentary, “Bowling for Columbine,” by Michael Moore. The film explores the circumstances that led to the 1999 Columbine High School massacre and, more broadly, the proliferation of guns and high rate of homicides throughout the nation. The documentary can be viewed on Amazon Prime, Tubi, Pluto, Apple TV, Roku Channel, and Google Play and is available at the Ventnor Library. This program is via Zoom and a link will be emailed. RSVP by Aug. 8.

    10th Annual Village Card Party, Thursday, Aug. 11, 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

    Players can look forward to exciting games of mahjong, canasta and bridge as well as lunch, auction items and door prizes at this event hosted at Harbor Pines Golf Club, 500 St. Andrews Drive, Egg Harbor Township. Participants should organize their own table with friends and family. Others will be randomly assigned to a table. Players must bring their own cards or game set. Tickets are $100 per player and can be purchased at tinyurl.com/JFScardparty or by contacting Julia Tracy at 609-822-1108, ext. 356 by Aug. 8.
